“Ioco / Belcarra Cottages / Port Moody”: Screening of a video-installation by Florence Debeugny followed by a discussion on the impact of gentrification on communities

The Canadian Studies program and the Centre de la francophonie are pleased to present the screening of a video-installation entitled “Ioco / Belcarra Cottages / Port Moody”.  The 21 minute video-installation is the work of Florence Debeugny, a Vancouver-based, multi-disciplinary artist who focuses her artistic practice on architectural photography of British Columbia. This screening will be followed by a discussion on the impact of gentrification on communities. The participants in this discussion will be:

  • Jo Ledingham, Belcarra South Cottages resident and the theater critic,
  • Patrick Condon, founding chair of UBC Master of Urban Design program and holder of the James Taylor Chair in landscape and livable environments,
  • Elizabeth Murphy, Vancouver Sun contributing writer on urban issues,
  • Florence Debeugny, multi-disciplinary artist focusing her artistic practice on architectural photography of British Columbia.

The discussion will be moderated by Michèle Smolkin, filmmaker and writer.

This event will be held on Thursday March 7 from 12:30pm to 1:50pm in UBC Life Building, Room 1505.
